Homeschool Bee Program
A fun, hands-on learning adventure for homeschoolers (Ages 5–12)
Give your homeschoolers a learning experience they’ll never forget, one filled with real bees, real honey, and real-world learning in nature.
The Werombee Hive Homeschool Bee Program is a 2.5–3 hour immersive workshop where children step into the world of bees, sustainability, food production and pollination on our working farm in Theresa Park.
Designed specifically for home-educated students, this program supports learning through curiosity, observation, and hands-on discovery, making it ideal for children aged 5–12. It is aligned to the NSW Science & Technology K–6 Syllabus, Geography K–6, and sustainability outcomes.
What Children Will Experience
With guidance from our resident beekeeper Stu The Werombee Man, children will:
Suit up like a real beekeeper in child-sized protective gear
Explore a live hive safely, in small groups
Meet the queen, workers, and drones and learn their roles
Try their hand at using the smoker
Taste fresh honey straight from the frame
See real pollen, brood, beeswax and honey-making up close
Activities through a Student Learning Journal linked to the NSW Science & Technology K-6 Syllabus
What is Included
Children will rotate through three engaging stations, each linked to NSW Curriculum outcomes:
Hive Exploration Station – “Life Inside the Hive”
Students observe a working hive and identify the queen, workers and drones. They explore bee behaviour, life cycles, pollination, and communication (including pheromones and the “waggle dance”).
Bees, Honey & Beeswax Student Learning Journal Station – “From Flower to Food”
Students investigate how honey is made, touch and smell real beeswax, and explore the role of nectar, pollen, enzymes and comb. Includes honey tasting and sustainability discussions on how bees support our food system. To reinforce learning, each child completes journal activities throughout the session. These are aligned to outcomes in the NSW Science & Technology K–6 Syllabus, such as:
ST1-4LW-S / ST2-4LW-S – describing life cycles and needs of living things
STe-2DP-T / ST3-2DP-T – exploring materials and sustainable use
GE1-1 & GE2-1 – caring for environments and understanding our connection to them
These journal tasks help children connect science concepts to real-world learning, supporting homeschool records and portfolios.
Hands-On Making Station – “Beeswax in Our World”
Students make and take home a beeswax candle, learning how beeswax is produced, harvested and used. This station supports creativity, material exploration and fine motor skills.
Every child receives a Junior Beekeeper Certificate and takes home their handmade item.

Weather & Bee Welfare Clause
Bee experiences are subject to weather conditions on the day.
For safety and bee welfare reasons, hives will only be opened in suitable warm, calm weather. If conditions are cool, windy, rainy, or otherwise unsuitable, the experience will be adapted to a non-hive opening format, including close-up observation from outside the hive, bee education, honey tasting, and hands-on activities.
This is not considered a cancellation but a modification of the experience in line with safety and animal welfare obligations.
Where conditions are unsuitable for any outdoor bee activity, bookings may be rescheduled by mutual agreement.
