Our Story

Welcome to The Werombee Hive, run by Stuart and Ally Dench — family-run, made with care, and rooted in a deep connection to the land.

Stuart cares for the honeybees that work our small orchard, and oversees our Golden Honey from hive to home. Ally is the creative hands behind the Hive — bottling the honey, and making beeswax candles, hand-knits, and the odd doll or crochet teddy along the way.

Our motto, "Our Hands, Nature's Gifts," is simply how we work. Taking what the orchard and the bees give us, season by season, and turning it into something made by hand. Nestled in Theresa Park, NSW, ours is a small, self-sufficient property, where the hum of bees and the cluck of chickens mark the rhythm of the day.

Our farmstay and workshops are now open — a chance to slow down, stay a while, and join us to learn something new.

Come and visit The Werombee Hive. Growing, creating and living simply is what we do — and we'd love to share a little of it with you.

Our Mission is:

To bring together the tradition of beekeeping and the craft of making things by hand.

We care for our hives with the same attention season after season, harvesting raw honey and pure beeswax as the starting point for everything we make. From beeswax candles to the flavours of home preserving, each product carries a little of the orchard, the bees, and the quiet work that goes into keeping them.

What Sets Us Apart?

Golden Honey and Beeswax Candles: Our honey and beeswax candles come from the same source — the hive. From hive to home, each carries a little of that pure, golden glow.

Homemade Jams, Pickles, Chutneys, and Dried Citrus Fruit: Made from fruit grown in our own orchard, our jams, pickles, and chutneys carry the flavour of each season. Handpicked and made slowly, by hand, the same way as our dried citrus.

Handcrafted Dolls and Crochet Teddy Bears: Made stitch by stitch, our dolls and crochet teddy bears are slow, hands-on work — made with the same care as everything else that comes from the Hive.

Handmade with care

Ally makes each piece by hand: a linen doll, a crochet teddy, slowly, and with care. Every piece takes time, and every piece is a little different because of it.

Thread by thread, she works through the details, and each piece ends up carrying a bit of her own hand in it. It's simple, hands-on work, the kind that comes from making things the slow way, one at a time.

“This candle is amazing! The color is delightful, and it burns cleanly while exuding a subtle hint of honey fragrance. I'll definitely buy it again when I need more!”
