Little Beekeepers Experience

A buzzing adventure for kids at The Werombee Hive!

A morning with the bees, just for your child. Does your child love bees, nature and discovering how things work?
Our Little Beekeeper Experience is a one-on-one visit into a real working beehive, guided by Beekeeper Stu. We take our time and follow your child's own questions and curiosity, giving them space to look closely, ask things, and get to know the bees at their own pace.

Bookings essential. Adult supervision required.

Program Duration

2.5–3 hours, depending on group size and hive activity on the day.

Little Beekeeper Experience

Cost:
$95 for one-on-one

$55 per child for group booking of 2-6 children

The Little Beekeeper Experience is designed for the child to participate with Beekeeper Stu, while their parent or responsible adult remains onsite.

During their bee adventure, your Little Beekeeper will:

  • Suit up in their own child-sized protective beekeeping gear

  • Meet our beautiful bee girlfriends and discover who's who in the hive

  • Learn how a beehive works and how thousands of bees work together

  • Visit a working beehive with Beekeeper Stu

  • Have a go at using a bee smoker

  • Explore the frames and look for honey, pollen and brood

  • See if they can spot the Queen

  • Taste beautiful local honey

  • Depending on the season and what our bees have been up to, experience a little honey extraction

  • Bottle a mini jar of honey to take home

  • Receive their very own Little Beekeeper Certificate

The experience can run for up to two hours, depending on your child's age, confidence, curiosity and, of course, what our bee girlfriends have planned for us on the day!

BOOK LITTLE BEEKEEPERS EXPERIENCE

Adult Supervision

A parent or responsible adult must remain onsite for the duration of the experience, particularly for our younger Little Beekeepers.

There is no additional charge for an adult who is attending solely to supervise their child.

Supervising adults are welcome to watch from our designated safe area while Beekeeper Stu guides their Little Beekeeper through the hands-on hive experience.

If Mum, Dad, grandparents, or carers would like to suit up and participate in the bee experience themselves, rather than supervising from the sidelines, please let us know when booking, and we can talk with you about our family participation options.

What Children Will Experience

With guidance from our resident beekeeper Stu The Werombee Man, children will:

  • Suit up like a real beekeeper in child-sized protective gear

  • Explore a live hive safely, in small groups

  • Meet the queen, workers, and drones and learn their roles

  • Try their hand at using the smoker

  • Taste fresh honey straight from the frame

  • See real pollen, brood, beeswax and honey-making up close

Every Little Beekeeper is Different

We know that a four-year-old and a twelve-year-old are going to experience bees very differently!

That's why we don't rush our Little Beekeepers through a set program. We adjust the experience to suit your child's age, confidence, interests and level of understanding.

For our younger bee enthusiasts, the experience may be shorter, gentler and focused on building curiosity and confidence. Older children may want to delve deeper into bee behaviour, hive biology, pollination and the practical side of beekeeping.

The most important thing is that they leave with a sense of wonder, respect and excitement about bees.

About Stuart

Nestled in the peaceful landscapes of Theresa Park, NSW, Stuart has spent the past ten years building his farm and his passion for beekeeping. As an experienced apiarist, he’s constantly learning and dedicated to sharing his knowledge with others.

Stuart’s interest in bees started a decade ago, and since then, he’s focused on perfecting his beekeeping skills. He’s especially experienced in managing bee diseases, handling swarms, and running an apiary. Stuart’s expertise and dedication was further underscored by his involvement with the Department of Primary Industries where he played a pivotal role in the frontline response to the varroa mite, showing his commitment to both safety and community -a challenge that demanded both expertise and agility.
